Ramona Trent was educated in photography at the California College of the Arts and received a Masters of Fine Art degree from UCLA in 2000. Her photographs have been featured in Elle Magazine, Black and White Magazine, Artforum as well as other publications. Her work has been exhibited by James Harris Gallery in Seattle and she has previously done projects in the field of fashion photography as well as fine art. She is the recipient of the Ann McAndrews award and the Bill Muster Foundation award. Her self- published book of portraits titled FALL was issued in 2002. Ramona Trent resides in Los Angeles.
As a child and even today, I love looking at the beautiful, black and white images of my mother and father holding me and playing with me and I feel so lucky to have these images. After I had my daughter, I saw so many friends dissatisfied with the snapshots and bad lighting that would make up the photos that marked this special time in their lives. When I began this pursuit, of making beautiful, meaningful images of childhood, I felt they needed to have natural light and natural play. Those quiet moments when a child is trying to understand how to put something back together and the closeness that a child feels for their parents was what I wanted to capture. I think of these children, when they are grown, looking back at these images, at the time when their parents were young and life was simple. Photographs work themselves into the magical, memories of childhood.
The shoot takes place at the your house or a nearby location (a park or canyon etc) and usually takes 2 hours. I make between 400 and 800 images during the shoot depending on the size of the group. Young children are encouraged to have snacks, breaks, and play time to keep them relaxed and happy. Next, I choose between 50 and 150 "photographer's favorites" and upload them to shutterfly.com and send you the link. You will not be charged for any expensive "print packages" and can order prints at cost from shutterfly.com. Conveniently, you may also forward this link to friends and family so they can make their own orders as well. At this time, you will also receive a disk with all the original images on it. You may also order custom professional prints through me if desired.
I use a Canon 5D professional SLR digital camera with 12.8 mega pixels. I shoot in the RAW format and later convert the images to JPEGs for printing. Any image can be converted to black & white. The L-Series lenses I use provide exceptional sharpness and clarity to the images. All of this makes for beautiful enlargements and a professional quality that anyone can recognize.
